Stella's first snow day

Yesterday, we had a legitimate snowstorm, a rare sight here in St. Louis. This is my third winter living here, and its the first time I can actually say - yup, this is a lot of snow! We ended up with about 4-5 inches, so really nothing compared to the recent east coast storm. But enough to shut the city down for a day.* Since snow like this doesn't happen all that often, it seemed appropriate to let Stella experience it. Except we didn't buy her any snow gear for this year! We cobbled together the outfit below - a hat borrowed from a friend, a snowsuit David purchased on clearance in a bigger size for next year, a pair of boots that don't stay on her feet very well, lots of layers underneath. Poor girl didn't have anything covering her hands, so we went out just long enough to snap a picture. Really, all was fine until she decided to put her hands in the snow!

Mittens people, are they too much to ask for?

And thanks to our across the hall neighbors, who snapped this shot from the window.

* Make that 2 snow days in a row for me. Luckily daycare opened back up, so I can actually get some school work done today. Speaking of which, I should probably get started. . .

  1. My sister in law used to put socks on her daughters' hands when they played in the snow. They lived in NC so they never got enough to warrant buying proper snow gear.

    2. Haha. . . thanks for clarifying, Rachel! I was wondering what random person was giving us such obvious advice. Yeah - socks would have been a good idea. We were only outside for a couple of minutes, but we will next time for sure!
